About the Festival

The Astra Arts Festival embraces music, literature, theater, and visual arts, amid the comfort of small-town hospitality.  Astra features renowned professional artists, but also plenty of outlets for grassroots talent.  Even children have their chances to star.

Astra is held every two years; first taking place in 2014.  The William Inge Center for the Arts at Independence Community College was instrumental in its founding, after the award of an “Our Town” grant from Independence Community College.  Since 1981, the college has produced the William Inge Theatre Festival, the Official Theatre Festival of the State of Kansas.

Now, the Astra Arts Festival is operated as its own non-profit 501-(c) 3 organization.  A multitude of community groups band together to present this summer time celebration.
